The Monotype Collage Class
Friday, October 3, 2025 - Sunday, October 5, 2025
What is monotype collage? It's the act of mixing monotype printmaking and collage. Exactly how you do it, is a matter of choice.
There are a few different ways to do monotype collage and we will be exploring FOUR of them during class:
- Traditional style - printing first and collaging afterwards.
- Chine-Collé style - gluing the collage paper down as the painted or inked layer is printed.
- Redacted style - collaging first and printing on top.
- Ping Pong style - moving back and forth between collaging and printing.
Each process yields slightly different results and one may work better for your brain than the other.
We will be using gelatin plates and a small craft press to create our mixed media artwork. The focus of this class is on creating finished art rather than random prints. You can expect to go home with lots of ideas and a big stack of artwork.
All experience levels are welcome. There will be an optional collage fodder exchange for any students who wish to participate.

NOTE:
- Exact Location will be provided to registered students. It is a private home in Watertown, MA.
- This space is not handicapped accessible. You must climb TWO flights of stairs to reach the attic studio.
- We are a shoes-off household. You are welcome to bring slippers or indoor shoes.
- There are no refunds once payment has been made. If you cannot attend you are welcome to sell/give your spot to another person.
- For a local hotel, I recommend the Marriott Residence Inn in Watertown or the Hampton Inn & Suites in Watertown. Both are brand new, well located near shops and restaurants, and a short drive to my home studio. The Four Points by Sheraton Boston Newton is also very close by.
