If you struggle with composition, this is the class for you!
Composition is like a foundation garment for your artwork. If you get the foundation right, then everything else looks great!
In this three-day intensive workshop, we will be focusing on compositions that work over and over. You will create 6-12 small finished mixed media collage artworks (depending on how quickly you work) during the three days of the workshop.
In class we will cover:
Best adhesives and paper for mixed media collage.
Methods for adhering paper.
Layering.
Design Elements and Principles such as Contrast, Layers of Dominance, Color, and Value.
Compositions that work and WHY they work.
How to create variety in your work when you use the same composition over and over.
How to create and use thumbnail sketches.
And lots more!
Here’s everything else you need to know:
Both abstract and representational artists are welcome. We will discuss how each of the compositions work for both types of art.
All art supplies plus breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided! We can accommodate most dietary issues.
If you wish to bring your own collage paper, you are welcome to do so. Otherwise, it will be provided to you.
All levels welcome. Ages 16+
The workshop is held in my art studio (in Watertown, MA), which is the third floor of my house. You must be able to climb two flights of stairs.
This is a pet-free, smoke-free home. This is also a shoes-off household. You are welcome to bring indoor shoes or slippers to wear while you’re here.
Class runs 9am-4pm each day, with an hour break for lunch (and/or a walk around the neighborhood).
You are welcome to stay and make art until 6pm each day.
Arrive any time between 8am and 9am for breakfast. It is not required that you come to breakfast.
There is plenty of free on-street parking available.
There are a number of nearby hotels and short term rentals.
Watertown is 20-30 minute drive from downtown Boston. You can also take public transportation into the City. There are lots of fabulous museums and historical spots to visit. Many students spend some time as tourists either before or after the class dates.
Treat yourself to an immersive art experience you’ll love! You deserve it.
